Introduction to Hadith Studies

The status of Ḥadīth as the primary authority in Islām after the Qur’ān is accepted and understood by the vast majority of Muslims. Yet despite its undeniable importance in Islām, Ḥadīth studies remains one of the most misunderstood and neglected sciences in the Muslim community.

This course introduces students to Ḥadīth methodology and the science of Ḥadīth. It looks at the origin, development, and criticism of the Ḥadīth literature as well as the debates surrounding its transmission, authority, and application.

Tafsir of the Last 10 Surahs

In this course, inshallah we will delve into the translation and meaning of the last 10 surahs from Juz ‘Amma. In addition, there will be discussion on the Asbaab al-nuzul (reasons for revelation), what key Mufassireen said and a look at aspects related to Balagah (Quranic rhetoric) which will inshallah enrich subsequent recitations of these beautiful surahs.
